Dependencies

pom.xml

Generate and format Maven dependency XML, parse coordinates and build Maven commands.

How to use the Maven Dependency Helper

  1. In Dependencies, paste dependencies in any format: group:artifact:version coordinates, Gradle lines (Kotlin or Groovy DSL) or <dependency> blocks from a pom.xml.
  2. Pick the output: Maven XML, Gradle Kotlin, Gradle Groovy or plain coordinates. Scopes, BOMs and exclusions carry over.
  3. In mvn commands, tick the goals and options to build a command for Bash, PowerShell or CMD, or copy one of the common commands.

How scopes map between Maven and Gradle

  • compile ↔ implementation (or api), runtime ↔ runtimeOnly, test ↔ testImplementation.
  • provided ↔ compileOnly. Lombok also needs annotationProcessor in Gradle, which is added for you; annotation processors such as MapStruct's become annotationProcessor.
  • A BOM (<type>pom</type> with <scope>import</scope> in dependencyManagement) ↔ implementation(platform(…)).
  • Spring Boot DevTools (runtime + optional) ↔ developmentOnly.

Frequently asked questions

Why does PowerShell need quotes around -D options?

PowerShell splits an unquoted argument such as -Dmaven.test.skip=true at the first dot, so Maven receives -Dmaven and .test.skip=true. Commas also turn into separate arguments. The generated command quotes these for you.

What's the difference between -DskipTests and -Dmaven.test.skip=true?

-DskipTests compiles the tests but doesn't run them. -Dmaven.test.skip=true doesn't compile them either, which is faster but breaks modules that depend on another module's test JAR.

Should I use mvn or mvnw?

Use the wrapper (./mvnw) when the project has one: it downloads the Maven version the project expects, so every machine and CI runner builds the same way.
