    How to use the Spring Cron Generator

    Spring cron syntax

    Spring's CronExpression has six fields: second minute hour day-of-month month day-of-week. It supports everything standard cron does, plus:

    • ? in a day field, meaning "no specific value" (same as *)
    • L the last day of the month, L-3 three days before it, LW the last weekday
    • 15W the weekday nearest the 15th
    • 5L or FRIL the last Friday of the month, FRI#2 the second Friday
    • 5/10 "from 5, every 10", and macros like @daily and @hourly

    How Spring differs from Linux cron and Quartz

    • Seconds come first. A five-field Linux expression is rejected by Spring.
    • Both day fields must match. 0 0 9 1 * MON runs only when the 1st is a Monday. Linux cron would run on the 1st or on Mondays.
    • Sunday is 0 or 7, like Linux. Quartz numbers days 1–7 starting on Sunday, so Quartz's 1 is Monday in Spring.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which time zone does @Scheduled use?

    The JVM's default time zone, unless you set zone. Setting it explicitly avoids surprises when servers or containers run in UTC.

    Can I put the expression in application.yml?

    Yes: @Scheduled(cron = "${jobs.report.cron}") with jobs.report.cron set in your configuration. Use "-" to disable a scheduled method.

    Is my expression uploaded?

    No. Parsing and the next-run calculation happen entirely in your browser.
