How to use the converter

1. Choose Properties → YAML or YAML → Properties.
2. Paste your application.properties or application.yml, or click Sample.
3. Copy the result, or download it with the right file name. Swap converts it back.

Follows Spring Boot's rules

• Lists and maps. include[0]=health becomes a YAML list, and logging.level[org.hibernate.SQL]=DEBUG keeps the dotted package name as a single key ("[org.hibernate.SQL]"), exactly as Spring's relaxed binding expects.
• Profiles in one file. --- in YAML and #--- in properties (Spring Boot 2.4+) separate documents, for example one per profile with spring.config.activate.on-profile.
• No silent type changes. Spring reads YAML with SnakeYAML, which follows YAML 1.1: on, yes and off are booleans and 007 is a number. Values like these are quoted in the YAML output so Spring still sees the original text.
• Placeholders stay intact. ${DB_URL:jdbc:h2:mem:test} is copied unchanged.
• Correct escaping. Continuation lines, \uXXXX escapes and special characters in keys are handled. Non-ASCII characters are escaped by default, because Spring Boot reads .properties files as ISO-8859-1.

Frequently asked questions

Is my configuration uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser. Connection strings and credentials never leave your machine.

Why do I get "has a value, but it's also a parent"?

Properties like server=1 and server.port=8080 can't both exist in YAML, where server is either a value or a section. Rename one of them.

Are comments kept?

No. Comments don't survive the conversion; you'll see a note when the input had some.
