Which case where?

  • camelCase: Java and JavaScript variables and methods, JSON keys
  • PascalCase: class, interface and type names, React components
  • snake_case: Python, database columns; SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE: constants and environment variables
  • kebab-case: URLs, CSS classes, CLI flags, Kubernetes resource names
  • dot.case: Spring Boot properties such as spring.datasource.url

How words are found

Words are split at spaces, _, -, . and /, and where the case changes. Acronyms stay together: XMLHttpRequest becomes xml_http_request, and userID becomes user_id. Numbers become their own word. Letters from any language work.

Frequently asked questions

How is Title Case decided?

Every word is capitalized except short ones like a, of and the in the middle, and words already in capitals, such as API, stay as they are.

Is my text uploaded?
