How to use the UUID Generator

1. Choose the UUID version and how many you need (up to 1,000).
2. Adjust the format: uppercase, with or without hyphens, or wrapped in braces.
3. Copy the list or Download it as a text file. Click Generate for a fresh set.

UUID v4 vs v7

Version 4 UUIDs are 122 bits of randomness. They're the most widely used and reveal nothing about when or where they were created.

Version 7 UUIDs (RFC 9562) start with a millisecond Unix timestamp followed by random bits, so they sort in creation order. That makes them much better as database primary keys: new rows are appended to the index instead of scattered across it. UUIDs generated here in the same millisecond still come out in order.

Inspect a UUID

Paste any UUID to see its version and variant. For time-based UUIDs (v1, v6 and v7) you also get the creation time.

Frequently asked questions

Are these UUIDs random enough?

Yes. They're generated with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues). The chance of two v4 UUIDs colliding is negligible.

Are the UUIDs sent anywhere or stored?

No. They're generated in your browser and never leave it.

Is a GUID the same as a UUID?

Yes. GUID is Microsoft's name for a UUID. Tick Uppercase and Braces for the {XXXXXXXX-XXXX-...} style common in .NET and the Windows registry.

Which version should I use?

Use v7 for database keys and anything you want to sort by creation time. Use v4 when the ID must not reveal its creation time.
